Barrow loads of fun

MAKING Markets Matter in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, proved to be a fitting end to the campaign in 2007.
Markets Manager Joyce Ames said: “It has been a great success and has definitely brought many more people into the town and on to the market.”
Whilst the prize Voucher Vault and the Shopping Basket Challenge were situated alongside the small outdoor market, just a few yards from Debenhams store, the prize collection point and free face painting were inside the indoor market hall.
The “5 a day” fruit and veg hunt also took place around the indoor market stalls.
NMTF Chief Executive Officer Joe Harrison said: “Barrow was a great example of the promotion works. We stage the the action away from the market, but to claim a prize, have the youngsters’ faces painted or stand the chance of winning the fruit and veg hunt they have to walk down to the market itself.”
Barrow’s Mayor, Coun Ken Williams, officially opened Making Markets Matter and spent over an hour chatting with NMTF officials and traders.
“I think it’s a great idea, and the voucher vault is excellent,” he said.
On behalf of the federation Joe Harrison presented Coun Williams with a plaque inscribed with the Making Markets Matter logo.
